CCA Louisiana

Baton Rouge, LA USA

It is all about to begin. STAR Starts Saturday!

We have had over 20 tagged redfish caught in the last 4 years and most by unregistered anglers. You don't want to give up a brand new Chevy Silverado or one of the nine 2110 Nautic Star and Mercury packages up for grabs. Also remember there are over 20 divisions with great prizes based on heaviest fish for inshore and offshore species.

Couple of changes:
1) The Speckled Trout Division just got bigger! Catch a Louisiana-state record speckled trout and not only win the Speckled Trout Division Nautic Star boat package but also a BRAND NEW 2013 Chevy Silverado from the Super Chevy Dealers of Baton Rouge.
2) The Offshore Division prizes have doubled in size. They are now $5,000 tackle packages per species and the eastern boundary for the offshore division is now the MS/AL line.
3) Red Snapper Division will need to follow the federal guidelines set forth by the Gulf Council and how it pertains to Louisiana anglers. This way everyone has the same opportunity.
4) Addition of a Captains Division. It is a Catch Photo and Release division based on longest speckled trout and it is free to enter. Guides if you are interested, give me a call at the office 225-952-9200 or email me at rad@ccalouisiana.com.

And as always, if you want to increase your chances of winning, enter your children and grandchildren. It is free for them to enter STAR courtesy of Academy Sports + Outdoors.

Check our ccastar.com for complete list of divisions, prizes, weigh stations and rules as well an updated leaderboard during the tournament. Also like us on Facebook, as soon as we get a new leader, you will know about it!

PRETTY FISH IN THE SOUND!!!!!! Had the pleasure of fishing today with Ray King Bob McCurry their friends Fred and Josh. The guys came in from Ms last night and we got an early start this morning. It was a beautiful morning. Not much wind clean water and good tide. The fish were not where we left them yesterday. They do have tails and swim. Capt. Jakamo called and said he was on a gooooood bite. We headed over his way and got into the action. Really pretty trout. No throwbacks with a few reds and heads mixed in. We caught their limit of 100 pretty fish along with 8 reds 4 heads 1 puppy drum and 1 flounder. Jakamo had his hundred before we did. Check out the picture below and give us a call. photo DSC03788_zps939d46db.jpg

Paul,
The federal snapper season is 9 days.
Like you, I fish on that end of the gulf (FWC)and there are no snapper in state waters there. The gulf council wanted to extend our season to 22 days, but the NOAA said "no". But lets be real, 22 days is a joke. Our rights are slowly being taken away. The commercial fleet can still catch millions of pounds. Our government is corrupt: from the president, through the IRS all the way down to little mr crabtree. Thats why i support Sen Bret Allain's bill to make it illegal to fish, possess, and sell red snapper in Louisiana. Shut it all down until real reform takes place. And Mike Lane, Mary Landrieu is only worried about the mainstream liberal agenda and cares nothing about the people in this state. And don't forget, she supported the legislation that would have given our 2nd amendment rights to the UN. Thats why next year we need to elect Bill Cassidy and kick her butt out.

RISING TIDE REDS.......

Couple weeks back I had the pleasure of fishing Jimmy Stormo and his crew for a bachelor party. The crew was from all different parts, including Chicago and Minnesota. The guys came down to the lodge the night before and Chef Extroidinaire Capt. Dane put on a Cajun cusine spread for them with gumbo, salad, Trout Meneure, crab cakes, and bread pudding. The guys raved about the food. Capt. Jonathan and Danny pitched in a hand and helped me with the trip. It was a breezy high tide/redfishy kind of day. We all went in the same areas back of Hopedale and turned out to be a good move. All boats had fantastic catches and by the end of the day the tables back at the bsm were full up with 53 redfish 34 black drum and 2 flounder. The guys all had a blast and can’t wait to get back. All fish caught on live shrimp with H and H Custom Rods teamed with FINS Windtamer Braid. We are currently booking for the upcoming 2013 BIG TROUT run, which you are definitely not going to want to miss!!! Remember that moon dates/weekends book up first….so don’t procrastinate getting your date secured. Come see why we have such a repeat clientele and keep our groups coming back! WIND STIFF OUT THE SOUTH TODAY!

Had the pleasure to guide some nice folks from Florida today. Wayne, Emily, Dot, and Bill will be here for two more days. Their first day was great!

We left out of the Delta Marina with the wind stiff out the south southeast early this morning. We had to give the east side of the Mississippi River a try due to the wind. It was the correct move as my crew boated 75 Speckled Trout, 5 Redfish, and a couple of Puppy Drum.

Capt.Phil Robichaux's Fishing Charters

Lafitte, LA USA

Today I fished with Mr. Whitt Gentry. He likes to catch redfish so that's what we did. We ran down to Little Lake and had a great day putting our 10 redfish limit in the box and added a few flounder and sheepshead to finish out our day.

On Monday I fished with Al Bowman and his family. The winds were howling so it was plan redfish. We stayed close to the marina not wanting to get beat up in the winds and waves. We had a great day putting our redfish limits in the boat plus a few puppy drum and sheepshead.

On Sunday I fished with Kip and Becky Collum. The winds were blowing again like usual. we ran to Little Lake and got on a good redfish bite. Once again it was limits of pretty redfish and some puppies and sheeps to finish out the day.

The last 3 days its been simple fishing throwing fresh shrimp on the bottom on 1/4oz.jigheads.

We have decided once again not to raise our rates. They are $425 for 2 people,$475 for 3 people and $525 for 4 people. We have the best rates in southeast Louisiana. All you need is your fishing license and food and drinks.

If you want to fish with Lafitte’s most professional, hardest working fishing team, give us a call at 504-689-2006 or shoot us an email at captainphil02@cox.net . For more info visit our website at www.fishwithphil.com . To view photos vist and like our Facebook page Capt. Phil Robichaux Fishing Charters on Facebook

We have nice, clean lodging available at a reasonable price and 5 full-time guides ready to serve.

We are happy to arrange a meal for you at Jan’s consisting of your catch freshly sauteed or fried and gumbo or whatever else on the menu temps you. Truly a meal and an experience you wont forget.

God Bless

CAPT Mark Munson. FIRST CAST CHARTERS

Shell Beach, LA USA

The Kling family called and said they were
ready for their annual trip.  Madeleines aid she
wanted another big red like last year so I
promised her we give it our best.  First on the
menu though were the trout, lots of them.  Neal's
wife Suzanne was the first one up looking for a
pole and shrimp. She is one petite gal I wouldn't
want to go toe to toe with.  The things she says
to those fish when she's fighting them I can't put
on this website.  Madeline and John kept me
running around like a headless chicken baiting
hooks and taking off fish while Neal continually
tried to micro manage the whole boat.   With all of
this going on we managed to boat 100 trout and
some big reds to boot.  Madeline finally got over
her fear of touching the fish and helped me
count them at the end of the day.

I love seeing families enjoy fishing together
as I did with mine.  No cell phones, iPads I
touches game boys or whatever just fishing!!

Thank you Neal , Madeline, John  and
Suzanne for your continued business and I look
forward to seeing you in the future!

          ZACHRY AND SUNBELT TAG TEAM
THE TROUT

Late report from Saturday.  Saturday morning
we left as early as I could get the guys on the
boat.  With the Ft Beauragard  rodeo and a
beautiful forecast I was sure there would be
boats everywhere.   We got out to the spot where
we had been hammering the trout and they had
one boat there but not blocking us. We set up
and started putting some trout in the boat.  And
the boats started showing up like it was the
blessing of the fleet.  I watched one guy get so
close to another boat I thought his prop was
going to tangle in the other the boats anchor
rope.  Another boat couldn't set his anchor and
kept sliding back on top of our corks starting his
engine and trying again.  I should have taped it it
was quite amusing!  We left there with the trout
we had and went out to a small  well with no one
around and they fish ate those CAMPOS
SALTWATER CRICKETS as fast as we could
get them in the water.  They had no interest in
the croakers and we never found any in their
stomachs either.  We could have put a beating
on them even faster but Russ and Keith wouldn't
fish for the first 2 hours.  I had to convince Capt
Michelob Ultra that this was not a spectator sport
and promised to keep a cold beer next to him at
all times.  Gary and Ruben put more than their
share in the box while Russ and Keith continued
their questionable and disturbing relationship in
the rear!

DJ Doug Joe and Billy were on CAPT Joes
boat and they had boats in a circle around them
but were steady putting on a clinic with fish
coming to the boat.

When we finished up on the trout early we
went to a rig in the east and put a hurting on the
bull reds until the guys cried uncle.

We had to leave anyway because Russ was
running out of beer and looking a little worried.

As always I would like to thanks ZACHRY
and SUNBELT as well as all of our other
customers for their continued business and the
future because without them we would not be
lucky enough to do what we do for a living!

GOOOOOOOD IN THE SOUND!!! Had the pleasure of fishing today with Travis from Austin, TX, Katie and Lanie. We had a three stop shop day in Breton Sound. We caught fish as every stop. The trout were eating up and the porpoises were eating the fish off of the line. You couldn’t get them out the water fast enough – the porpoises were crazy. We limited out catching 100 speckled trout. All the fish were caught in Breton Sound on Campo’s live shrimp. We are back at it tomorrow and will post a report. Fishing is really good right now. Check out the pictures we post every day and give us a call.

Just got an email from WWNO FM about a panel discussion tomorrow evening at Loyola. As some of you may know, they've been doing a series in the mornings about the coastal problems in Louisiana.

****

Is It "Last Call" For Louisiana's Coast?

Join WWNO - New Orleans Public Radio and Bob Marshall, The Lens' Coastal Desk reporter, on Wednesday, May 22, for an in-depth discussion of coastal issues discussed in our new series The Louisiana Coast: Last Call.

The series reveals this sobering consensus from coastal scientists and state officials: If the master plan for the coast isn't completed over the next 40 years, most of southeast Louisiana will be under water before the end of the century.

Join Bob as he moderates a panel discussion of experts to see if they agree and take your questions on this vital issue: David Muth, head of the National Wildlife Federation's Louisiana Coastal Project; Anne Rolfes, founder of Louisiana Bucket Brigade, Kerry St. Pé, head of the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program and Aaron Viles, deputy director at the Gulf Restoration Network.

This one's for Captain Al Walker.

Al,

On behalf of the group that put on the Hideaway Lake Fishing Rodeo, I want to thank you for the trophies that you donated to the event. To say they were a hit is an understatement I saw how much they meant to our young anglers by the way they literally lit up when each of them were presented with their "Champion 2013" trophy. Every one was more excited with their trophy than the other prizes they had won.

Your generous gift of these trophies added more than you could have imagined to our Rodeo. I've posted a couple photos of the little anglers who are beaming with their prized trophy.

Again, thank so much Al from them and all of us.

Please read it over and give me your feedback. Feel free to email me. Afterwards, I can make a txt file with the appropriate HTML code that you can copy and paste to reference it. Well,
At 1pm tomorrow I'll be back with family when that big silver bird sets down in N.O.
Unfortunately that means getting up at 3:45 for a 6am flight. The things I do for fish and family. But, I think this time I may have timed it right with a soon to be full moon and the tides are looking good.
I probably have a day of electrical wiring on my brothers boat after he darn near gutted the hull and has been working way too much on it for the last month or so.
I'm looking forward to the next 7 days with my brother and his family and our friends and I want to say thanks to Secret Formula for his insight and help. Tight Lines Everyone. Special thanks to Mike Lane and Capt. George Ricks for spearheading the opposition against the Diversions. This is very important and everyone needs to get onboard and get and be involved even if it is only sending one email, one phone call or attending one meeting. Once it's gone it's gone. We hope to be on the water on Thursday probably on Catfish Lake so if anyone see's a couple of Old Duffers in a 20' Blue Wave CC and 125 Mariner with big smiles come on over and say howdy. We will probably be in our old haunts for the rest of the week out of Bason's or Dockside on Grand Isle. Any reports about Specs in the Sulphur Mines?

Check out this link and see how the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation feels about the river water from the Bonnet Carre flowing into the lake. They say it will cause the Speckled Trout and Shrimp to leave the Lake. Yet, they formally oppose the closing of Mardi Gras Pass! Perhaps they support the large scale diversions in the Master Plan, because they will never have to open Bonnet Carre again!!

Subject: Destroying thousands of people, families and businesses in southeast Louisiana caused by the implementation of the Louisiana’s 2012 Coastal Master Plan

Ask him if he said Senator Mary Landrieu has “no dog in the hunt”.

Is Senator Mary Landrieu is going to hide under her desk while these Louisiana People are sacrificed when there is an alternative to diversions, dredging.

Be sure and tell all your voting friends about her position.

If Senator Mary Landrieu dose not care about the people in southeast Louisiana then it is our quest to make sure she is not elected to any government position if the future.

IN Response to PGP and CB

That is the way Lionel has run his business for years. I had the same thing happen to me years ago NO Launch No Shrimp. I understand to an extent you need shrimp for your customers but the time he refused to sell me shrimp he had plenty. His policy did not change until competition moved down the street. I will never launch a boat from his marina shrimp or not.
Just my Humble Opinion.

Capt. George Ricks / GET-AWAY CHARTERS

Hopedale/Delacroix, LA USA

www.TheSaveLouisianaCoalition.com
Greetings!

Our seafood industry is being threatened, and we need your support! Last year the Louisiana legislature approved the 2012 Coastal Master Plan. It is a plan of 109 projects with a price tag of $50 billion designed to save Louisiana from coastal erosion. We commend our elected officials for acting on this all important issue.  No one wants to save our coast more than we do. We are residents and make our living on the land that we are quickly losing. We are the people of St. Bernard, Plaquemines, Jefferson, and all of the coastal parishes. We are commercial and recreational fisherman, shrimpers, crabbers, oyster fisherman. We are the businesses that support the fishing industry and are supported by it, packaging plants, ice plants, restaurants, and grocery stores. We are the people who love Louisiana and its seafood because there is nothing in the world like it. We are invested in our coast and will support the restoration of it any way we can; however, there is a serious issue with the master plan. While the vast majority of it would be helpful to restoring our coast, there is one project that will be detrimental. A section of the plan calls for the construction of 10 diversions, spillways that will divert fresh water from the Mississippi river into our salt water marshes. There are diversions that already exist today, like the diversions in Caernarvon and West Point a la Hache, but they in no way compare to the massive size of the proposed structures. The Caernarvon diversion for example has a max flow rate of 8000 cfs (cubic feet per second); two of the master plan's diversions will have max flow rates of 250,000 cfs. To put this in perspective that is the same size as the Bonnet Carre spillway!

Diversions of this size will destroy our entire fishing industry as we know it. The best oyster beds in the world will no longer exist, the shrimp and crab population will be devastated, trout fishing will be a thing of the past. If  this sounds dramatic, it's because it is! Our fisherman came back from Katrina, they are still fighting their way back from BP, but this will be much worse than either of those. These diversions will be permanent structures, our industries, our heritage, our way of life, will have no chance of coming back. The officials who created this plan are not arguing the consequences, they say that the diversions will displace residents and change the fishing industry but that is an acceptable trade-off! We say it is not, we will not give up our homes and our industry for an idea that they don't even know the effects of. The men and women who formed this coalition have spent their lives on these waters, I trust that they know and want what is best for it, more than the politicians in Baton Rouge. It is not their homes or jobs that will be affected, it is ours, and we need to stand together and fight.
The St. Bernard and Plaquemines parish governments are both in full support of our group, and even passed ordinances opposing the construction of any new diversions.

Sign Petition!

As bad as that sounds, it isn't even the worst part. On top of demolishing the most valuable industry coastal Louisiana has, many scientists believe that large scale diversions simply will not work, and they have history on their side. Three of the longest running diversions currently in operation are Caernarvon, Naomi, and West Point a la Hache. These diversions have been in operation since the 90's and no significant land development has occurred, in fact the Caernarvon diversion has actually eroded land! Furthermore, any land that does develop from fresh water is highly susceptible to storms. The Mississippi is not the same as it was 100 years ago when its annual flooding sustained our land. Current numbers estimate that it has only about 1/4 of the silt that used to flow down it, and the waters are highly polluted. The river water that will be diverted is full of fertilizers from the farmland in the Midwest. This allows for quick growth above the surface, but no substantial root system, completely unlike our natural marshes. Every storm that blows through will destroy any progress that the diversion appears to have made. This was proven after Hurricane Katrina where in the path of the Caernarvon diversion 50% of the land was lost. The natural salt water marshes of Delacroix and the Biloxi marsh only saw 2-10% erosion. So we are going to build structures that cost us millions of dollars, that even at best case scenario will take decades to build land, and that storms will destroy every time they blow through. It makes absolutely no sense!

Let me be clear, we are for coastal restoration, and even for a lot of the master plan. The coast is our home and our livelihood. We want to save it more than anyone, but these large scale diversions are not the answer. There are several other PROVEN methods, including dredging and land-building that would be much more successful than the diversions, will have immediate results, and will not take our industry away from us in the process. A coalition has been formed, The Save Louisiana Coalition, and we are asking for your support. Please join our fight and help to spread the word. This is the most important fight of our lifetime, and to be successful, we need everyone that this will affect to stand together with us. So join our coalition, Sign our petition, forward this message to your elected officials, educate your family and friends, and thank you for supporting coastal Louisiana.

Shell Beach, LA USA

BREEZY AT THE BEACH THIS MORNING!!! Had the pleasure of fishing today with Jim, Joe and Angelo. The guys are in town from Maryland visiting their brother and wanted to go fishing. A friend of theirs had given them my number and raved that they had caught 125 fish in 2 hours. I told them that wasn’t happening today. When I got to the rocks the wind was blowing pretty good. We fished in the channel putting 10 in the boat. We jumped back in Fortuna and caught another 45. The wind laid down about noon so we made a run to Breton Sound and caught their limit of 75 speckled trout. The guys couldn’t believe the fishing we have down here and had a fun time at the beach.

Sweetwater Marina

Delacroix, LA USA

Yesterday Captain Jack fished on the outside and caught 57 trout. They decided to come on the inside and fish for reds. They ended up catching 20 reds.  The fishing outside is good if the weather permits.  Today Captain Jack fished with Larry, his brother in law and son.  Today wasn’t a day for fish hunting they pretty much went out to play around.  They came back to the dock with 12 reds, 12 trout, 2 drum, and 1 sheep head.  Today was a quick easy day.  Be sure to call the lodge ahead of time for the availability on shrimp.  The shrimp situation should be getting better being that the shrimp are coming from the west bank now. Also the brown shrimp season opened on the inside so that means he will not have to go as far.  Sorry for the inconvenience; shrimping is a very tough business.  Jack has two days available for charters the 28th and 30th. Get your spot while it’s still available.  All the weekends in June are booked, so therefore the days during the week are available. We still have the Sweetwater special for 18$; a boat launch, bag if ice, and dead bait.  Remember we are the second marina.  Give us a call to book charters/lodging 504 342 2368. Don’t forget to call ahead of time for shrimp.

SUNKIST

SHELL BEACH, LA USA

Somebody's throwing out bad info! I fish out of Delacroix 3 or 4 times a year just for a change of action from Shell Beach. I have never had a problem getting bait from the Serigne's launch and I DO NOT launch there, I keep my boat at a friends slip. I have always gotten quick service from them. Now, many years ago I remember the policy of 'no launch-no bait', but that's been gone for some time now. Looks like the next generation has taken over the operation and changing with the times......just like most successful businesses do!

I'm going to comment on the Serigne bait shop issue I keep my boat in a slip and buy bait there all the time, and have never been asked where did I launch. One guy is saying he was waited on by Joan who hasn't worked at the store in years and the other hasn't launched there since 2004 nine years ago,so tell me how do you know what's going on there today? Why don't you bash something you know about.

Capt. Jacques/Jakamo South

Shell Beach, LA USA

I was fishing with clients on Saturday when the inevitable happened. I was barely idling in the MRGO, making an adjustment for my clients, when Bam! I hit a pipe and stalled out my motor. I didn’t hit it hard and thought I’d be okay, but when I put the boat back in gear, it was obvious I tore up my lower unit. I called Captain Frank and Captain Markham to pick up my guys and continue fishing. After that, I called Captain Rod Harrel with Seatow to come save my @$$. Let me tell you something guys, it’s not if something is gonna happen, it’s when. My Seatow membership allowed my guys to continue fishing for the rest of the day and I didn’t have to inconvenience any of my friends with such a long tow. A special thanks to Capt. Rod, Capt. Frank, and Capt. Markham for helping me out.

Pat Fitzpatrick

Slidell, LA USA

Launched out of Hopedale Sunday with my sister Kelly. Late night graduation activities, no sunrise start. The SE winds were 10-15 mph, a tad bit high, so we skipped the original destinations (Two Trees, Machias, etc), and went Plan B, the lagoons off Loutre.

It worked out reasonably well. We got a mixed box of reds, 1 large sheephead, and a few trout. Also had some throwback reds, trout, drum, and a small flounder. Overcast most of the day with enough breeze to stop the bugs, nice.

When it slowed down, we headed out to Pt Lydia area and a few spots on the way in with little more to show (throwback reds). Mid-day slowdown and no tide.

Still hoping to get out on a calm day to fish the edges.

PS...we had live shrimp, but they are only needed for trout. Reds, drum, sheephead, and flounder all will hit dead shrimp fine. We always carry 2 lbs large shrimp from a local seafood shop; usually enough is left for a Creole sauce.

jim i was not not in line and i dont launch. my boat stays in a slip at delacroix. i fish 3-6 evenings a week.also very seldom use live bait.and cant belive people cant see the logic of not going for the fast buck selling out of live bait (which is not always in endless supply) and then having to tell your customers who are launching buying ice maybe gas beer etc. that you are out of live bait because you GOT IT WHILE THE GITTING WAS GOOD. was in business to make money, not only
did he loose my purchase of bait at the

bait and launch fees. I know losing me as
a customer won't kill his business but
enough people will lower his income. I

In Response to Yama trout I don't even fish on the East side of the river nor do I know CB , but it  sounds like to me you were outsmarted why wait in a line of 25 boats if you can launch quicker also for your information of cb not being a customer last time i checked a customer is someone who purchases an item from a business therefore by him attempting to purchase shrimp I would say that classifies him as a customer.

In response to cb. So let me get this straight. You always launch at capt. Jacks. You didnt want to wait behind 25 other boats to launch at lionels. So you skipped the line and launched with no line and no bait. Then want to motor up canal cut in front of all boats waiting to launch and buy bait. Sounds to me like lionel has created a competitive edge by owning his own bait boat keeping it running going out and working his ass off to insure his customers have live bait. So tell me again why he should sell it to you.

PRETTY TROUT IN THE SOUND!!! Had the pleasure
of fishing today with good friends Sonny, Bob,
Kevin, and John.  The guys came down last night
and we got an early start this morning.  We
stopped at Campo’s on the way out and grabbed
our bait.  We had a 3 stop shop day.  Heading to
my third stop, Capt. Kerry called me and was
sitting on a spot where some friends had caught
fish yesterday.  He said it was slow and the water
was dirty but the fish were good.  When I got
close, he said he thought the fish were about to
go, I eased up a ways from them and we had them
going between the two boats.  We called it a day
with 112 speckled trout, 1 red we kept, and 1 we
left loose to fight another day.  The red exploded
on Sunny’s cork first fish of the morning.  He did
ring around the rosie twice before he landed him,
took a picture, and turned him loose.  What a way
to start the morning.  Look at the pictures and give
us a call.  We have 4 boats to take you on your

Lafitte, LA USA

Good day on the bayou!

Today, I had Sean Ahern and his young crew out on the Blazer Bay. These guys were up for anything that would stretch a line, so we made a short run from Seaway Marina in search of redfish.

We started our morning off throwing gold spoons in the grass patches. With very little sunshine and lots of wind, we only put 1 keeper in the box. We made a bait change to fresh shrimp and started to go to work. We quickly boated 5 reds, a pair of puppy drum and a few sheepshead. We moved around quite a bit today, hitting as many spots as the wind would allow and catching a few reds at each one. Our last stop was our best as we put 9 nice reds on ice to finish off our 25 redfish limit. Our total for today was 25 reds, 6 sheepshead, 2 drum and one lost speckled trout.

Thank you, Sean and crew, for a busy day of catching!

I have a late cancellation for this Wednesday. Call us if you're ready to battle some hard fighting Lafitte redfish!

Response to PGP.  You are mistaken my friend.  I
was also not allowed to purchase live bait from this
boat launch because I did not utilize their launch.  I was told
personally by Miss Joan that no launch, no bait.
I have seen entries like this in the past and it is not a
random event or something the owners are not
aware of.  That being said, at that time they were
the only launch open in Delacroix and it showed.
Maybe the competition may force them to
reconsider their policy.
